As incoming Rooks, you are required to purchase not only your dress shoes in advance, but also your boots. The required boots must be tan, military-style combat boots without zippers. If you are having difficulty finding the correct boots or shoes and have questions, please contact the Cadet Uniform Store at 802-485-2206.
Once you purchase your boots, the next step is breaking them in. Although this sounds silly, the best and safest way to break in those boots is… just wear them! We have heard all the tricks from using shoe trees to shaving cream, yet the safest way to do it is just wear them around the house. Around the house is the important part here - you don't want to wear them out hiking and show up on arrival day with mud covered boots all stained and beat up. You want your boots to still look new, yet feel broken in at the same time.
The best way to tell that your boots are broken in, is when you wear them, they should go on softer and not be as stiff as when you first purchased them. They should feel comfortable on your feet when you walk around, not snug, rubbing, causing blisters, etc.
Additionally, if you planned on purchasing your boots through our campus uniform store on Arrival Day, for a small fee we can ship your boots to you in advance. This way you too can work on breaking in those boots over the summer. If interested, call the Uniform Store at 802-485-2206.
