Yes it is true. Norwich is in the middle of nowhere. There is not much to do but go to Shaw Outdoor Center or stay indoors and work. However, if you have a car on campus or make friends with somebody with a car you may find that Vermont is not as boring as you thought it was. There are a few places in Vermont that I have found to be great places to visit.
Burlington is a great city in northern Vermont. It is home to other schools such as Champlain College and UVM. Downtown there are some great shops and restaurants. There is also an indoor mall which is a great cold weather activity. If you have the chance while at Norwich I highly suggest visiting Burlington.
A bit closer to campus is Montpelier. Downtown Montpelier, like Burlington, has many shops and restaurants. I have spent more time here for birthday dinners and small trips. A few suggestions of mine would be Positive Pie and Chill. The first is a restaurant and the second is a gelato place. Chill has the best gelato I have ever had! I highly suggest visiting it. All of my trips to Montpelier have been very fun and I can't wait to go back.
And let's not forget Ben & Jerry's. If you have never been before, take the trip up and go on a factory tour. Better yet, go on free cone day! Free cone day is on April 8th this year and I will be going with a few friends. I'll make sure to post a blog about the crazy amounts of ice cream we consume :)
