Name: Kassandra Vieira
Hometown: Well we currently live at Fort Meade, MD. My father is Army so we move a lot.
Major: Civil Engineering
Why did you choose that major?: I have always loved structures. My love of structures increased while I was in Europe. When I visited Rome I was greatly impressed as I considered that the Coliseum is thousands of years old but still standing and in virtually the same condition that it was when it was built. I want to learn how to build beautiful structures that will last long after I’m gone.
Lifestyle: Corps of Cadets
What made you apply to NU? I liked the structure that the Corps of Cadets offered. I also liked the engineering department.
What other Universities did you consider? University of Texas- Austin, Embry Riddle, Drexel, and Texas A&M.
What made NU stand out? The Corps of Cadets, the civil engineering department, and the rural location all made Norwich stand out.
What clubs/sports/activities do you hope to participate in at NU? I am interested in Mountain Cold Weather, the Maroon and Gold Key, and the NU Tactical Society. I might not join them all though.
What do you see yourself doing after graduation? I see myself, after graduation, as a Civil Engineer in either the Army or the Navy.
Favorites:
Movie: Most John Wayne’s. My favorites are “She Wore a Yellow Ribbon,” “Rio Grande,” and “Horse Soldiers.” Ok maybe my Army heritage is showing. My early memories are of cavalry exhibitions at Fort Riley.
Band: Army Field Band. Oops, there goes that Army heritage thing again.
TV Show: “Ancient Discoveries” and “Engineering an Empire”
Book: G. A. Henty Collection. They are historical fictions written in the 19th century.
Finally...Tell us something about you that surprises people: My sister is also going to attend Norwich. No, we are not twins. I am sixteen going on seventeen, and am just entering college at the same time as my sister who is 18 months older.
