Yesterday on Friday, was the annual Talent Show and I decided to be in it this year. My talent was Hula and Tahitian dancing. One of the reasons why I did the talent show was because I wanted to do something DIFFERENT in my life! Since last year I've been thinking about being in the talent show, just for fun. I guess you can say I have a bunch of these "goals" but I never complete any of them. During winter break I was really thinking about it and I told myself, if I do the talent show I have to commit myself to it, especially since I was making up one of the dances and the other one I had to learn the choreography. I also had to make a costume, which wasn't that hard since I already had a sarong, which is a cloth skirt you wrap around yourself.
My mindset going into this talent show was JUST FOR FUN! I wasn't expecting to place and I just wanted to do something that I love, and that's DANCING! Even if I didn't place I like the feeling that I did something that I LOVE to do, and I can show it to everyone in school. Tahitian dancing is FUN, I even loved practicing in my room, it was a stress-reliever.
I still can't believe I won FIRST PLACE! I think part of the reason why I won first place is because not every one knows what a hula is or tahitian dancing, or know what a luau is. My dance was so culturally different, and I loved it! I even told some people that I was doing the Hula for my talent, and they thought I was hula-hooping....so yeah. Seriously, I just did the talent show for fun and enjoyment, to be on stage, and do my thing.....AND I GOT FIRST PLACE! It's definitely a good feeling....bringing the Tahitian Islands to snowy Vermont.
** It was also a good way to start my Birthday Weekend because my birthday was the next day!!
