Buffalo Soldiers exhibit now open

This exhibit features stories of the Army's famed men "Buffalo Soldiers," 19th Century units made up of black enlisted men.

A number of Norwich graduates served as officers for the 9th and 10th Horse Cavalry Regiments, named Buffalo Soldiers for their toughness by the American Indians they frequently fought.

The exhibit features photographs and personal belongings from the descendants of the Buffalo Soldiers.

In 1866 Congress authorized the creation of two cavalry regiments and four infantry regiments of black soldiers.

Between 1867 and 1891 Buffalo Soldiers earned 12 Medals of Honor during the Indians wars in the American west.

How do you keep a people down? ‘Never' let them 'know' their history.

The 7th Cavalry got their butts in a sling again after the Little Big Horn Massacre, fourteen years later, the day after the Wounded Knee Massacre. If it wasn't for the 9th Cavalry Buffalo Soldiers, there would of been a second massacre of the 7th Cavalry.
