This exhibit features stories of the Army's famed men "Buffalo Soldiers," 19th Century units made up of black enlisted men.
A number of Norwich graduates served as
officers for the 9th and 10th Horse Cavalry Regiments, named Buffalo Soldiers for their toughness
by the American Indians they frequently fought.
The exhibit features photographs and personal belongings from the descendants of
the Buffalo Soldiers.
In 1866 Congress authorized the creation of two cavalry regiments and four infantry regiments of black soldiers.
Between 1867 and 1891 Buffalo Soldiers earned 12 Medals of Honor during the Indians wars in the American west.
