The Tunbridge fair was Sunday and I got to work there for
the Naval Battalion. We all got up and were ready to go at 0530. By 0730 we
were there and ready to work, they gave us jobs and told us what to do and then
the day began. I signed up for the whole day because we were going to earn
money based on the number of people that we had come out so I was eager to show
them that the Norwich Naval Battalion are a bunch of hard workers. I got
assigned to ticket sales at the Bravo post with one of my Rook buddies. We
worked hard in the rain and the cold. The Naval Battalion fed us breakfast of
bagels, muffins, fruit and juice and it really started the day off right. After
a few hours the rain let up and we started to see the sun, and for those of you
from Vermont know that when the sun comes out and it has just rained you’re in
for a treat. The heat picked up and so did the humidity. We were all sweating
just standing around let alone working hard. At around noon we got some lunch, they
made us burgers and chicken for the main course and gave us other food like
salad, fruit, pasta salad and desserts. It was all good and then it was back to
work, selling tickets and directing cars. At around 2 my Rook buddy and I got relieved
and were allowed a little bit of time to just check out the fair, what a treat.
They had rides and food, animals and music. We got fried dough and it was
really good. After our little excursion to check out the part it was back to
work. This time I got sent to Alfa post and was set to work stamping people’s
hands so they could come back into the park if they wanted to after leaving.
And that was what I did; I made sure that any one that was leaving but wanted
to come back would not have to spend another 10 dollars to enjoy what they had
already paid for. Then another guy came and relieved me and I went back up to
Bravo post to see if I could work there, and that I did for about 20 minutes
before getting a call that they wanted the extra from Bravo post to report to
HC, so I went and they told me that I was going to head back to campus. I was
kind of surprised but at the same time I was kind of happy, the last few weeks
have taken its toll on me and I was already tired so I went back happily. Back
on the hill I went right to third mess and had a great dinner and was sent to
my hole to conduct study hall for the rest of the evening. It was a good
weekend and no one will ever change my mind about it.
Well I know I just posted but I think this topic
disserved its own post but the same rules apply here; if you have questions,
please ask them.
Hope you enjoy reading and that you will keep
reading.

Sounds like you had a fun day, even though it was 'work'. It was probably nice to be ina different venue as well. Thanks for filling in the details!

Aren't you glad that you're at NU? You could've done ROTC at a number of other fine institutions. But the Corps of Cadets has a way of empowering the student to become a scholar, soldier, and sort of a saint. NU asks A LOT of a cadet, to be an excellent student, a cadet, and a person of honor and respect. Expectations at other schools are not as demanding as they are at NU. NU is very proud to have you, Nathan.

I hope Norwich is proud to have me, I don't know why I would be here if they were not so that's good. And you are so right Norwich and the ROTC programs here give you options to really work at making yourself a well rounded individual. Yesterday I was given another such opportunity to grow, The Board of Fellows visited our school. The Board of Fellows is a group that kind of sponsor the business school here on campus and they came here and let us have discussions with them about leadership. That was a once in a life time event right there and I was really happy to be invited to that meeting.
Thanks for writing nufan I hope that you enjoy all my post this year.

Hi Nate, Your grandpa is doing well after his surgery. Went in last weekend for back surgery and then had to go in again on Thursday as a blood clot had developed on his repair and was pushing on the nerves so his pain had actually increased. He is doing better now but is being held at the Hospital because they have found another blood clot in his lung. We expect him to be home today. He is doing well for an 85 year old and anxious to be home. He wishes you well and is proud of efforts at NU.

Thanks for the update, I am really taking to this place and enjoy every minute of it, even the bad because they just turn into learning experiences. Hope Grandpa feels better soon.
