My name is participant DeCristofaro and I am 16 years old from Braintree, Massachusetts. I have prior experience as a coach for a local baseball team. I also have experience as a team player in football, wrestling, baseball and golf. The most valuable lesson I learned today was how to move my team correctly in formation. The greatest challenge I faced today was hiking Mt. Ascutney. I will use the trial and error of team movement to assist future team leaders. I liked hiking Mt. Ascutney the most today, it was very beautiful.
My name is Participant O’Connor and I am 17 years old from North Andover, Massachusetts. My only previous experience comes from being captain of several sports teams. The most valuable lesson I learned today was to put the needs of others in front of mine. The greatest challenge I faced today was making sure everything was squared away while I was fatigued. I would use the skills to better handle situations where others are relying on me and to better care for any subordinates I may ever have. My favorite activity today was taking a team photo on Mt. Ascutney at 2,750 feet.
My name is Participant Hashem, I am 17 years old and from Haverhill Massachusetts. I have previously attended Junior State Police Academy. The most valuable lessons I learned today was taking charge and actually stepping up in a leadership role. My greatest challenge was getting my whole team to where we needed to be on time. I would use the lessons I learned today in the future when need be when assuming a leadership role. The activity I enjoyed the most today was hiking Mt. Auscutney with my team.
My name is Participant Jones and I am 16 years old from California. I have no prior experience similar to FLC. The most valuable lesson I learned today was that I need to ration my water on long hikes. The greatest challenge I faced today was climbing up Mt. Ascutney. I will use what I learned today to help my team hike up to Deer Leap tomorrow. The activity I had the most fun with today was hiking Mt. Ascutney with my team.
My name is Participant Daugherty and I am 16 years old from Florida. The most valuable lesson I learned today is that as a team you should always have a med kit on hand to be prepared in the unlikely event that someone might get injured. The greatest challenge I faced today was rock climbing at the indoor gym. The most valuable lesson I learned today was to always be prepared and have the right equipment on hand when on a hike. The activity I had the most fun with today was the repelling and the indoor rock climbing gym.
My name is Participant Kalleta and I am from Manorville, New York. I am 18 years old and my prior leadership experience includes being a Civil Air Patrol member, responding member of the Manorville Ambulance Company, and a Youth Police Academy graduate. The most valuable lesson I learned today was that teamwork oriented objectives required quick communication and for team members to look out after each other. The greatest challenge I encountered today was having the courage to rappel off of Deer Leap Cliff for the first time. However, I conquered my fear and rappelling turned out to be my favorite activity today. I will be an incoming Rook this fall at Norwich University and the leadership skills involving teamwork that I learned today will assist me greatly during Rookdom and in life.
My name is Participant Niepsuj. I am from Elma, New York, which is near Buffalo, and I am 17 years old. I’m going into my senior year of high school and my previous leadership experience includes attending Boys State. The best lesson I learned today was that the participants and staff of the Future Leadership Camp can come together in times of adversity, and that I should do the same with problems in my everyday life. Listening is also the best leadership trait that anyone can possess. The greatest challenge I overcame today was making sure my team formed up on command. I would pay more attention to everyone and I would stay motivated. I had the most fun today rappelling off of Deer Leap.
My name is Participant Woo. I am 17 years old and reside in New Jersey. I have no prior military experience before attending this camp. Today I learned that mistakes and conflicts will happen and you just need to deal with them as they happen. Encouraging my team was the greatest challenge today. I will not let problems or conflicts bother me and impede my leadership duties in the future. I thoroughly enjoyed hiking up Deer Leap today.
