This month on campus has been really fun. My friends and I have been attending hockey games here and I'm not trying to brag...but our hockey team is phenomenal! When we returned from break, there was a skating rink built in front of the Wise Campus Center that has been available to anyone at anytime. A couple Fridays ago, there was fun activities that included skating, music, and even the restaurant Cornerstone came to serve meals. Even when it is cold out, Norwich finds ways to have fun! Today the weather isn't too cold or too hot which makes good hiking weather! After classes today my friends and I are going to go on a hike. There are so many beautiful trails around!
I've been busy with school and work and planning for next year. But I think I should make a post to update anyone reading this on what life is actually like here at Norwich, for me at least.
Firstly, it's mighty cold but I'm used to it. I was born in New England so I'm used to New England weather. It's temperamental at best, you never know what you're going to get. There's lots of snow also and every time there's a storm, I have to remember to clean my car off or else I'm in for a surprise (mostly because I tend to be forgetful about a lot of things) when I do have to drive it because it's sometimes buried.
I probably mentioned in a previous post that I had switched majors from nursing to psychology. It was not a last minute decision, believe it or not. I had been mulling over it since I was a sophomore at Norwich during the Fall semester. Of course, the change seemed to come suddenly, but if anyone knows me well and frankly few people do, they would know I never do anything in haste.
I also never abandon something I've started. Which means, at some point in time, I will be finishing out my nursing degree. After I graduate Norwich I already have plans to attend USM and enroll in their accelerated BSN program. After that, I'm still making plans but they are tentative at best.
So, that's where I'm at right now. I'm very much looking forward to the end of this semester and the start of my senior year at Norwich. Sometimes, I am surprised to realize how far I've come. To everyone closing in on their senior years, I'm sure you're going to do amazing and go out into the world and do great things!
One of my close friends and fellow RA is in charge of Beaux Arts Ball this year! Put on by the architect majors in AIAS, it is used to raise money for the program. This year, the theme is a carnival, so students will be coming dressed in costumes to match that theme. I'm so excited to support her in this event. She has put so many hours into it, which she doesn't really have (being an Archie), with very little help. She's put so much thought into it - such as the free, good food, the decorations, the games, the prizes, and even the tickets.
So doing laundry at Norwich is awful and terribly hard! Each building only has five washers and five dryers! So doing laundry can be difficult. The trick to being able to do your laundry is this:
Do your laundry on a week day but not a Monday! No body does laundry on the week days, most people do laundry on the weekends and typically Sunday. Mondays are normally busy as well. Week days are normally pretty good to do laundry and there are always open washers and dryers.
Do you laundry during 8-5! No one and I mean no one typically has time to do their laundry during this time or they don't consider doing laundry during this time. I typically do my laundry at 1-2 on Thursday!
Always Always Always pick up your laundry on time! A wash cycle is 35 mins and a dry cycle is 40 mins. Getting your laundry on time is the best way to go because people will take your stuff out and put it on top of the washer or dryer and you will loose socks or underwear. It is crazy!!
Move your laundry over so no one takes the open dryer! Drying your clothes is always harder because people tend to be behind on getting their laundry over so everyone tries to dry at the same time and that doesn't work! So moving it over is always hard but if you do it as soon as it gets done you will most likely be promised a dryer!
My least favorite part about doing laundry is folding it! but it has to be done so I suffer through it. I also do my homework during the time it takes to get done. It is always a good time to just get some things done that you normally wouldn't get done.
Thanksgiving break is the most fun time of a Norwich students career. You are allowed to go home and see your friends, eat really awesome food, and just enjoy your time at home. Most teachers don't typically assign homework to their students before they come back but some do. Some teachers assign the final before the break just so the student has enough time to work on it before they come back to school.
During my break I hung out with my best friend Amanda. We went out to eat, shopping, and just enjoyed each others company. We ate at one of our favorite restaurants and enjoyed the food.
I also worked a lot during the break, working to me is a sense of freedom, you are given this freedom by being able to have money to do things with. I worked a good bit and earned a good bit of money so that way I can buy some food for the room and Christmas presents for a few special people in my life. Most of my money goes to food. I love food and will never not spend money on food because it is a small pleasure I get, considering I rarely ever go shopping for myself.
I also spent some well needed one on one time with my boyfriend. There is never a dull moment when he and I get together. We went to see Philly and I tried a real Philly cheese steak for the first time ever. It was amazing. Then we went rock climbing and ate at one of my favorite places to eat Chipotle.
