Day one is over and I am smiling. When we first arrived I was tired and was unsure how the homestay would be. No one spoke English. Well, the son returned home as well as the boyfriend of a daughter and I could finally communicate. Dinner was great and I am being told, there will be fresh fruit in the morning, wasn’t the biggest fan of the scrambled eggs. We participated in a scavenger hunt that gave us the lay of the land in San Ramon. Then it was off to Matagalpa “the city”. There we were allowed to go shopping. There was a lot of western fashion knock offs, but not a lot of Nicaraguan products. Things are pretty cheap here. Then it was onto the biblioteca that Planting Hope had constructed in one of the rougher parts of Matagalpa. We had lunch at a local restaurant then it was back to San Ramon for dinner and a party. This morning is scheduled to spend time with the families to prepare for the end of the year celebrations. I also might try and hit the cyber café to check in on the world. Let’s see what adventures I can get up to today.
