Hi guys! First off I want to thank you for actually taking the time to read this thing! I'm Meaghan and am currently the Associate Director of Admissions here at Norwich. I'm also a 2003 graduate, civilian commuter student, Political Science major. I grew up in the lovely, picturesque, only capital in the country with no McDonald's, Montpelier, VT.
My college experience was a wee bit different than most as I transfered schools not once, not twice, but THREE TIMES! (For those of you out there looking at transferring...make sure you know what you want because the process is not fun!) I ended up a Norwich for a variety of reasons, but mainly it was because I heard really great things about their Political Science program and, to be honest, they offered me a fantastic financial aid package (when one is the youngest of four children, these things are important). I truly believe that I got a top-notch education at NU and I really can't fully describe just how wonderful the faculty are. And for those of you who are interested in what you get after you graduate, yes I did use my degree! I actually worked down in Washington, DC for both Senator Leahy and Senator Jeffords. After about 9 months in the city I realized that I'm really just a country girl at heart and missed breathing clean air and really missed being able to look at people on the street without being afraid that they might mug me. So that was it! I packed my bags and headed home! Once settled back in my cozy little Montpelier, I went to work for the Vermont State Auditor as her Special Assistant. Now, how did I end up in Admissions? Well, she lost her re-election bid and therefore I lost my job! I had always thought about going into education and Norwich happened to be hiring so I sent in my resume and *poof* here I am! I've been with NU for over two years now and I absolutely love Admissions! I must say that the best part is being able to work with you guys...the applicants and interested students. I'm hoping that this blog will allow you all to get a glimpse of the reality of the admissions process, as well as dispel some of the myths out there that claim Admissions Officers are all old, mean men smoking cigars in a dark room. I'm here to help you with anything I can so please feel free to ask me anything and I'll do my best to get you the answer! I'll also be posting mainly about what's going on in the office, where we're at with the admissions process, application tips and advice, and my personal little tidbits. Enjoy!
