Alternative Thanksgiving Break

Good Morning All, My time here at Norwich is flying by faster than I can comprehend. While everyone made their planning arrangements to go home and spend time with family and friends I didn't get that as an option. Coming here from almost across the country can be very expensive and I wasn't able to afford to fly back so lucky for me the Center for Civic Engagement office offer an alternative break for those who aren't able to go home. This trip consisted of 11 individuals working at 10 different volunteer sites for a full week. I wasn't sad I wasn't going home because during this trip we were promised that we would make a huge impact for the citizens of Vermont and we were also able to go sight seeing around the state of Vermont which is pretty amazing because as a freshmen you can't really do that.... Winter Wonderland at Norwich University

Have you ever seen a winter wonderland? My favorite has always been the first snowfall, with the beautiful light snow on the ground and on the trees. I remember waking up as a child and looking outside and thinking it was the most gorgeous thing ever. However, I never knew how beautiful it was until I saw the first snowfall at Norwich University. Norwich is such a stunning place already, but the changing of the season makes it unique. The Upper Parade Ground is such an amazing place to take a walk, especially when it is snowing. My friends and I like to grab a salted Carmel hot chocolate at the Dunkin' Donuts on campus and walk around in the snow. You see everyone's holiday cheer increase and everyone is happy. Balance between acedemics and fun

One of the things I have found to be most challenging is balancing your time between your academics. Your education is very important and you're paying money to attend a good college to get good grades and receive a degree. However, you also need to find time to have some fun. College is about making memories and having a good time. You definitely want to get out and enjoy your time at college but you also need to focus on your grades. I have a hard time telling my friends I can't hangout because I have a paper due tomorrow but I have learned that it is either that or you receive bad grades. My first couple weeks when I came to Norwich I was more focused on making friends and I definitely chose hanging out with friends more than doing academics.
