I thought it would be a good idea to interview my boyfriend and ask him a few questions on how it is to live far away from home. I figured it would help some of you that are struggling with being away from home and not able to see family as much as you'd like too. Homesickness is one of the biggest struggles college students face.
The first question I asked him is, "How do you deal with homesickness?" He replied with, "Just keeping myself busy. It helps me to be constantly doing something whether that be, hanging out with you or friends, baseball or homework. I find it to be easier if I don't have much time to think about being away from home."
The second question I asked him is, "What is like to not see your family every day?" He said, "My freshmen year was the hardest for me. Especially as a rook and not being able to call home as much. I always reminded myself of my end goal and that is what kept me positive and pushing forward. It is easier now that I am able to call home."
The last question I asked is, "What did your family think when you decided to move 14 hours away from home?" His answer was, "They were super nervous and upset that I was moving away. But it got easier for them now that I am a sophomore because they got used to it and we view it as something that is apart of our daily lives."
I hope this helps some of you who are dealing with homesickness or are thinking about moving far away from home. Just keep in mind that it will get better and this is to better your future!
