This one is for anyone who is wondering what it is like to be a student-athlete at the collegiate level. Since I myself am not an athlete here at Norwich I sat down and asked my boyfriend, who is on the baseball team, some questions.
The first question I asked was, “How do you effectively manage your time to maintain your grades, commitments, and our relationship?”. His answer was, “Planning, planning is the key to successful time management, at least for me. You sometimes have to do an assignment that isn't done for another week just so it's done. As for a relationship, it's just important to find someone who is willing to give up their time with you to allow you to do something you enjoy doing and will support you.”
My last question for him was, “What was a typical day like for you during the season?” This was his response, “ Well every morning I wake up for formation and go to whatever classes I have that day. After classes I usually have about an hour to do homework or spend time with you then it's off to a two-hour practice. On game days we go about our normal day till about 1 o’clock when we have to report to the bus.”
Being a student-athlete is not always easy but if you love what you're doing then it is worth the work!
