Survived Rook Week: Rookie Picture Day is a Different Story

The class of 2023 is officially two weeks into the school year. We have survived Rook week as well as a week of academics. One thing that I experienced this week was Rookie Picture Day. Now, this is a process just like any other school picture experience. Reading this you are probably really curious about why I am writing about it. While I made it through, got my picture taken, met every time hack for the day prior to pictures, had plans to go volunteer at labor day festivities the day started off great. Now here is where the story gets interesting. How to get involved

In my three years being at Norwich, I have found that being apart of clubs and extracricular activities will maximize your college expereince here. Joining clubs, sports teams and work study jobs will help you gain friendships, memories, and achievement. I think staying involved around campus plays a huge part in suceeding here. It is most important to love where you go to school and being involved in things you like doing will help you meet that standpoint. There are job fairs that are held on the WCC green as well as club fairs. There are also bulliten boards around campus and in the residential buildings that have information about how to get involved around campus. How to deal with home sickness

Are you feeling a little down and missing home? I have a few tips and tricks for you! I had a really hard time moving away from home. The biggest advice I can give you is just understanding that it is a normal feeling and a lot of other students are struggling with homesickness as well. Missing home does not mean you are "weak" it simply means you miss your friends, family, pets, home, or even just a familiar place. One tip would be to try to keep your mind busy. Hangout with your friends and surround yourself with positivity. I have found that once classes startup, you will be busy with homework and studying so that will also ease your mind a bit and not give you as much time to think about being home.
