This week I had Guard Duty, meaning I had to report to the Guard Shack in Jackman Hall at 1630 on Tuesday, until 0630 Wednesday morning. The task entails being on standby in case anything bad happens on campus that we can help with. We get shifts in the Chow Hall for dinner chow to eat and then sit at the table outside to monitor the area.
It's a pretty miserable time to be harshly honest, you’re stuck sitting there with not much to do. It’s so early in the semester that I haven’t been assigned a lot of homework, which is great, but it meant I was super bored that whole night. Once I completed the little homework I did have, I binge watched some shows on Netflix but even that soon became tiring.
What makes time pass by faster and more entertainingly is when your friends visit you at the shack. A few 5th Company privates showed up with a whole box of snacks - ranging from mint Oreos to granola bars. I was able to share this food with the other cadets on duty with me. Two rook sisters and a rook brother visited me, some bringing food and others just coming to chat for a bit.
During all of my classes on Wednesday, I was really struggling to stay awake. I had a class at 0800, 0900, 1100, 1200, and 1300. It was a pretty miserable day and even all day Thursday I struggled to get my sleep schedule back on track.
