It’s hard to plan anything special for Valentine’s Day when units continue training as if it was any normal day. There was the Rail Jam Friday night, but it was so cold that not too many students went to watch. My friends and I got together once everyone was free after 2200 to watch To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before on Netflix. We had some chocolates that my parents had sent up for me to share with friends, which was a very nice surprise and much needed.
Okay, now the real fun part - the Winter Ball! I walked down with some of my rook family (It was brutally cold and I had decided to not bring a jacket to wear over my dress so I was walking as fast as I possibly could in my heels). I had free entry since I was performing with the Hip Hop Dance Club - we performed after the Jazz Band and just before the DJ started. We were super nervous before we went on since it was our first public performance, but we were all happy with how well it went and how much the audience seemed to enjoy it.
There wasn’t as big of a turnout as the Regimental Ball, but there were still a good amount of students that I knew so I didn’t mind the smaller crowd. The music was great and there was a photobooth, pocker, and refreshments. At one point I swapped out my heels for sneakers so I could be more agile in my dancing.
Overall, it was a great night and I’m really happy they added this dance.
Also, a huge shoutout to some of the 5th Company freshman girls that helped me with my eye makeup and mascara, as well as my rook brother that straightened my hair. It’s always nice to find these little opportunities that we can go all out with dresses and makeup to feel super girly in contrast to the military uniforms.
