I find this to be true every time I return home for a break, whether it be a weekend, a week (in previous years, for Thanksgiving), or an entire summer break- it is an adjustment. Quite frankly, I found this to be true regardless of the time that I had spent at my house prior to departing for college.
Being away, being independent, being your own person for a bit truly changes a person! You have new ideas, new perspectives, and new expectations for what you want!
So, what do you do?
While this may be my third year, it doesn't get any easier coming home for a break! You very quickly realize how much you miss your friends, miss your independence, and miss the free spirit that you quickly adapted to in the college life.
I found that the best method for coping was to give a little time to myself every day possible. For me, this included the simple independence of going to work, going for a drive, or going to get coffee. Spending a little extra time being alone does help in the long run- in my experience! :)
