As I’m sure many students are aware, Rook arrival day is coming at Norwich very quickly. With this in mind I thought I would share what I’m doing to be ready for Rook arrival day and provide any tips I can along the way. To begin, I’m packing all my items away and checking off the packing list making sure everything is ready and accounted for. A tip I would advise is double check the list, make sure all items meet the criteria and are accounted for. Remember: the more prepared you are now, the less problems there will be in the long run. Next, I have been breaking in my combat boots, ensuring their effectiveness and readiness. The simplest and most effective method to break these boots in is to wear them and use them, but don’t abuse them by submerging them in water. But not only should the boots and checklist be ready but one should also be ready physically. The best way to do this is with constant physical training. Now what I have been doing personally for almost the last year now is exercising five days a week, with two rest days. To keep one motivated in the physical training I set goals for myself, such as aiming for 70 push-ups and sit-ups in two minutes and a 14 minute two mile run time. These goals will serve as a great motivation to keep me focused and working hard. Now, this is all great and dandy being ready physically, but what about mentally? Well, the best way to be ready for Norwich is to come there with the mentality of “I will try”, that is the NU motto after all. If you’re willing to try, if you’re willing to not give up on yourself, and if you’re willing to take on challenges, you’ll be ready mentally. Well, that’s all from me for now, some parting words being the wise words of H. Jackson Brown, Jr, “The best preparation for tomorrow is doing your best today” and of course have a great day everyone!
