The importance of an effective schedule cannot be overstated. Therefore in this week’s blog post, I am going to be discussing the importance of an effective schedule and how one can implement such a schedule within their own life. First, an effective schedule is important because it can help one organize their plans. This could look like having a chronological list of items that need to be completed in an order that makes the most sense this you. This also could be ordered based on what’s due the soonest, what requires the most focus, etc. Organization is key to success, otherwise, you’re work and thoughts will be just a jumbled mess. This leads me to my next point, which is, an effective schedule can help increase your work productivity. For if your thoughts are organized, your work will be organized. And when your work is organized, you’ll spend less time trying to get your thoughts together and more effort in getting your work done. Third, an effective schedule can help reduce your stress levels. Often, students stress about their workload, but an effective schedule that organizes said work can make that mountain of work that’s due tomorrow seem like a mere bump in the road. How one can implement an effective schedule in their own life is by first writing it down. Whether that means writing it down on a scrap piece of paper, whiteboard, etc, if you write down your schedule it becomes much easier to maintain. The second step is making sure your schedule makes sense to you. What this means is you may have to make your own schedule rather than relying on a schedule template found from Google. Because if your schedule doesn’t make sense to you, it won’t be much good for you in the long run. This is where organization (that we discussed earlier) comes into play. The third step is to keep it updated, meaning stay on track with your schedule. If you find yourself unable to keep up with your schedule, that means you put too much on it, the same applies if you find yourself with too much time on your hands. The main takeaway when it comes to implementing an effective schedule in one’s life is by making sure it’s tailored to your needs so it works as well as it can. So, how does this relate to Norwich University? Well, at Norwich, you’re going to have a lot thrown at you, you’re going to have to wear multiple hats and juggle many balls at the same time. And without an effective method of handling this large workload (like a schedule), one would find themselves being crushed by the work. So an effective schedule makes the challenge which is Norwich easier to bear, and the rewards that much more attainable. Anyways to wrap up this post, just know that “productivity is never an accident. It is always the result of a commitment to excellence, intelligent planning, and focused effort.” (Paul J. Meyer).
