Arrival day is approaching for many Cadets for FTX week. Personally, I will training with the Cavalry Troop... but there are many other students who are partaking in Band and Drill as well. As a Rook, I have spent my summer preparing for this weekend for a while now; whether I was at the gym building endurance or muscle, reading my summer reading book for English class, or shopping around for all of the items that were on my "Rook Packing List". It is currently my last day here on Long Island, until I drive up to Vermont with my parents tomorrow morning. So far I have checked my bags and my checklist to make sure I have everything I need multiple times (as if my hangers could grow legs and walk out of the bag). Hi guys and welcome to my first blog! To start, I'm Yoomide (you-meed) Millar (mill-R) but most people call me Mide; I'll be joining AFROTC with a Mathematics major and can't wait to share my Norwich University journey with you! A little bit about me: one way that my background may differ from most people is that I am a survivor of the 2010 magnitude 7 earthquake that shook my birth country Haiti. I was airlifted out of Haiti on the back of a C-17 Air Force cargo plane and upon arrival to America, I flew on the Colorado governor's private plane from Florida to where my adoptive parents were waiting for me in Colorado.
